Has Depression Made Everything Feel like a Massive Chore?

  • Do you ever feel like you’re just not good enough?

  • Is it hard to get out of bed? Take a shower? Put on clean clothes?

  • Is it hard for you to feel anything other than sadness? Do you just feel numb?

  • Does it feel like you’re moving in slow motion?

  • You probably don’t care sometimes if you even wake up tomorrow.

  • You would give just about anything to stop feeling this way.

Whatever it is that you’re experiencing, you’re beginning to notice the impact of it in every facet of your life:

  • Poor attendance and frequently late at work

  • Lack of basic hygiene, i.e., daily showering, changing clothes, brushing teeth

  • Living area is unclean, dishes and laundry are piling up

  • Sleep and eating too much or not enough

  • Don’t answer calls, texts, or emails

  • Can’t remember the last time you had fun, laughed, or felt happy

Depression Counseling can help!

It may feel impossible now, but you can feel happy again. You can enjoy life. You can feel good about yourself. You can feel hopeful about today and tomorrow.

Depression Counseling helps you do 5 things:

  1. Get rid of harmful, negative beliefs about yourself.

  2. Learn coping skills.

  3. Uncover and heal past hurts.

  4. Develop compassion for yourself.

  5. Love yourself and start living a depression-free life!

I’ll help you through this process, tailoring each step to your unique needs and circumstances. My approach to depression counseling comes from a place of personal triumph and hopefulness: I have personally been on a depression recovery journey for many years.

I believe that if I can do it, so can you.

It’s time to start feeling better, feeling free of unwanted thoughts, and feeling like living.

And I can show you how.

What are Depression Counseling sessions like with me?

I used both CBT or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.

WHAT IS CBT?

EMDR Therapy Addresses the Painful Memories That Contribute to Depression

This approach gets to the root cause of your depression by addressing painful memories and triggers that contribute to your symptoms. Learn more about it here. Trauma Therapy is a deeper, more specialized form of depression counseling and may be appropriate for you.

Depression does not have to define the rest of your life. You can recover from your symptoms and move forward with joy and assurance.

Clients I work with tend to find the most relief from depressive symptoms using

EMDR therapy.

  • What are your most frequent negative thoughts about yourself? Some common ones I work on with clients are: I am not good enough. I am worthless.

  • It’s important to look for the evidence: is there any? What would you tell a friend in this situation? What would a more realistic, logical thought be?

  • What is the opposite of the negative thought? It’s okay if you don’t believe it at first; we will get there. I can show you how!

  • By changing your thoughts, your behaviors and feelings will also change. Changes can also start with behaviors: by making small behavior changes, this can help change thoughts and feelings.

You May Have Some Concerns About Depression Counseling…

Maybe I deserve to be depressed.

One of the main symptoms of depression is feelings of low self-worth. And if you believe you’re not good enough, it’s only natural to think that you deserve to feel depressed. Thankfully, this is not the case. I am here to tell you that you are good enough and that you are worth far more than you think. Therapy is a chance to reverse negative beliefs and become more confident in who you are.

I don’t know if I have time for depression counseling.

Therapy is just 50 minutes a week and sessions are available online, ensuring that you don’t have to worry about commutes and waiting rooms. As long as you have a private space and a solid Wi-Fi connection, you can meet from a place that is convenient for you.

Will I have to take antidepressants?

As a therapist, I do not prescribe medication and it is not a requirement for our work together. Therapy is often helpful enough that antidepressants are not needed. That said, if you are diligent with depression counseling and decide you still want to try medication, I would be more than happy to connect you with a prescriber.

Are there any other resources available to help me?

Yes! Great question. I offer group counseling for both women and men. For women, I offer a Women's Trauma and Depression Therapy Group. For men with substance use problems, I offer a Men’s Relapse Prevention Group. For fellow therapists, I offer a group for just you! If you are interested in participating in group therapy, you can ask about it at any time during the counseling process.
